This excursion will allow us to run over the valleys
and the oak and sabine groves that cover the
mountains of Cervera, guiding us to explore
the
caves of San García in the locality of
Briongos de Cervera. The approximate duration
will depend on the time we are inside the caves, but
more or less in 8 hours we can complete the whole
excursion.
It is very important to confirm with the town
council of Briongos de Cervera that the caves remain
opened in order to visit them.
The excursion starts close to the Ermita de San
Roque in order to follow the path that will take
us to Briongos de Cervera; the path flows
among oak and sabine groves, and when we arrive to
Briongos then we will cross the village, within
which we will find a fountain trough, in order to
follow the path that takes to Barriosuso in
north direction.
After leaving behind a set of faggots, we will leave
at our right a first valley that descends from the
Cervera Rock and when we arrive to the second
valley, at our right, we will follow it until we
have walked about 200 metres. At this point we will
go open-eyed to the slope on the right, where the
entry to the caves is located.
The caves have several branches, it is necessary to
go well equiped with good boots and a rain coat to
protect yourself from the clay and the humidity, and
of course a pair of lanterns. The first branch is
located in the same entry, to the right the tunnel
finishes when walked about fifteen or twenty metres.
You can find the second branch if you follow the
tunnel to the left from the same entry, from this
second branch if taking the tunnel to the left it
tightens a lot, and if taking the tunnel to the
right it will arrive a point where you need ropes to
follow, if there is not water.
To come back to La Parada del Cid the best
you can do is to go back over the same path until to
Briongos, and from there to follow the road to
Espinosa de Cervera or the path which we
followed at the excursion beginning.
